You’re not alone -- there are thousands of people just like you who are successfully quitting everyday. Here are some of their stories.
Problem: Linda's friends smoke
Most of my friends smoke. It’s a big part of what we do when we are together.
Answer: Turn friends into supporters
Linda’s is a very common situation that makes quitting more challenging. There she is, trying desperately not to smoke, and one of her friends lights one up and blows smoke right in her face. It’s all she can do not to grab it and take a deep puff.

The first thing that Linda should do is tell her friends ahead of time that she is panning to quit smoking. She should let them know how important quitting is to her and ask them for support. But Linda needs to be specific and tell them exactly what they can do to help. For example, she should ask that they consider not smoking in front of her and not offer her cigarettes. Linda should tell them that she might have to avoid them for week or so while she is getting more comfortable not smoking. Also, she should let them know that quitting may make her irritable for a while.

Good friends will typically want to see you quit and will do all they can to help. After all, chances are good that there is a part of them that wants to quit as well.
