Help, I am about to smoke
People just like you: Russ
You’re not alone -- there are thousands of people just like you who are successfully quitting everyday. Here are some of their stories.
Problem: Russ likes how cigarettes taste and feel
I like the taste and there is nothing like the feel of a cigarette between my fingers.
Answer: Replace cigarettes with things that won't harm your body
No doubt, for many people there is nothing like the feel and taste of a cigarette. It’s downright fun to light one up and watch the smoke rise. But, are there other things that can also give you a really enjoyable taste? Are there other, less harmful things, that you can do be doing with your hands that will satisfy an oral fixation?

Maybe, part of why Russ likes the taste and feel so much is because he learned to. Russ didn’t start out enjoying the taste of cigarettes; he acquired a taste for it over time. That means he can learn to enjoy other things as well. For example, Russ might like the taste and feel of mint or cinnamon flavored toothpicks. Or, maybe sucking candy will do the trick.

These are good ideas, but they only deal with one part of why Russ smokes. His chances of quitting will go way up if he deals with all three reasons why people smoke; habit, addiction, and emotional.
