Help, I am about to smoke
People just like you: Tyrone
You’re not alone -- there are thousands of people just like you who are successfully quitting everyday. Here are some of their stories.
Problem: Tyrone wants his wife to quit
I saw what smoking did to my dad and I can’t understand why my wife won’t just quit.
Answer: You can’t make someone quit, but you can be supportive
It’s very hard for non-smokers to understand why anyone would quit smoking. Tyrone should try to understand that smoking is not all bad and that people really do enjoy it. He should also try to understand that most people aren’t successful at quitting because they try to quit the wrong way; cold turkey. All this method does is make a person go into nicotine withdrawal. It does nothing to deal with the behavioral side of the equation.

The best thing Tyrone can do is be supportive. He should learn why people smoke and talk about that. As hard as it may be, Tyrone should try not to blame his wife because she really is the victim here. Chances are good that a part of her doesn’t want to smoke and help that part grow by being supportive. Anything else will just backfire.
